A step-by-step look at your Maui waterfall adventure from start to finish.
The Journey to Us
The drive out is part of the experience — a beautiful excuse to see Maui’s lush side before your waterfall adventure begins with Rappel Maui.
Most guests arrive from the south or west side (about an hour and a half give or take). The stretch of the Hana Highway you’ll travel is gentle, green, and genuinely lovely — not the dramatic “cliffy” portions people sometimes read about. You’ll wind through rainforest, pass rainbow eucalyptus trees, and cross a handful of one-way bridges (about 10 of the 46 before Hana town) at an easy pace.
The night before your Maui waterfall adventure tour, we’ll send a text asking you to share your car make, model, and color when you pass Paia. Cell service fades shortly after, so this gives our rappelling guides a simple heads-up that you’re en route and what vehicle to look out for.

Check In & Meet Your Guides
At the Garden of Eden Arboretum gate, show a screenshot of your e-ticket and you’ll be directed to our parking area. Your rappelling guides will be waiting at the Garden Galley, just steps away.
A short trail walk brings you down to base camp, tucked into the rainforest.

Gear Up for Adventure
We outfit you with everything:
- Footwear
- Harness
- Life jacket
- Helmet
- Backpack + dry keg
When the gear’s on and the group is set, it’s time to enter the canyon and begin your rappelling journey.

Enter a Private Canyon
Just a short walk away, we step into our restricted-access rainforest canyon — a place reserved exclusively for our guests. No crowds. No hikers. Just the sounds of water, wind, and jungle around you.
At the ridgeline, your guides lead a hands-on rappelling safety session and teach rappelling fundamentals before the first drop.
First Rappel:
Warm-up on a Jungle Cliff

You’ll start with a 50-foot dry rappel, lined with grippy netting for confidence and control.
It’s your “101 moment,” and it clicks surprisingly fast.
Second Rappel:
The Big Waterfall

Next up is our 60-foot waterfall — the signature descent.
On favorable water days, you ease over the lip and descend through mist and green canyon walls, landing in a clear pool below.
If conditions call for it, we shift to alternate jungle descents (70–100 ft) safely away from the water course — just as stunning and always guide-approved.
Cheer on your friends, soak it all in.
Third Rappel:
Pure Fun

A short boulder scramble leads to a 30-foot waterfall that’s all energy and smiles.
On favorable water days, you can choose to rappel directly in the flow. This decent is a photo favorite — and a bragging-rights moment.
The Trail Out
A switchback hike brings you back to base camp, buzzing on adrenaline and accomplishment.
Gear comes off, snacks come out, and you’ll stroll back to the parking lot feeling like you conquered something real.
Stop by Savor Maui on your way out — Rappel Maui guests receive a discount.
