Road to Hana Fun: Where Cliffs Were Scaled and Roads Were Won

Carved through lush rainforests, over rugged coastlines, and across numerous bridges, the Road to Hana is a monumental feat of engineering. It took decades to complete, with much of the work done by hand. It was constructed to connect the remote communities of East Maui to the rest of the island, making it a vital lifeline for residents. During its construction, men tied ropes around their waists and lowered themselves onto East Maui’s cliffs to set off explosives that paved the way for the road. Their brave efforts make our waterfall rappels look like a walk in the park!

Today, the Road to Hana’s 64 miles of paved road stand as a testament to the resilience and determination of Maui’s people, offering travelers a glimpse into the island’s rich history and natural beauty.

The Spirit of Adventure Lives On

At Rappel Maui, we honor the adventurous spirits of those daring souls who rappelled and paved the way for us to travel the Road to Hana. With over 600 curves and 59 bridges, the road offers breathtaking views at every turn. Towering waterfalls, verdant rainforests, and pristine beaches line the route, providing countless opportunities for exploration and adventure.
