Embarking on your first Rappel Maui adventure can be both exciting and a little nerve-wracking, especially if you’re new to rappelling or have never experienced Maui’s stunning landscapes up close. But fear not! We’ve crafted this step-by-step guide to walk you through exactly what to expect on your first tour, easing any concerns and getting you ready for a day of unforgettable thrills.
Step 1: Preparing for Your Adventure
Before you even set foot on the lush trails of Maui, it’s important to be prepared. Here’s what you’ll need to bring:
- Clothing: Wear lightweight, quick-drying clothing that you don’t mind getting wet or dirty. Think athletic wear or swimwear.
- Shoes: We provide you with footwear so wear what you want (that you won’t mind possibly getting dirty or wet on your short walk to the station where we gear up)!
- Snacks & Water: While we provide water and snacks at the end of the tour, bringing an extra bottle and some snacks is a great idea to keep your energy levels high throughout the day or plan on making a few stops at one of the many great spots along the road to Hana! Coconut Glen‘s is a local favorite.
Step 2: Arrival at the Garden of Eden

Your adventure begins at the beautiful Garden of Eden, located along the famous Road to Hana. This lush tropical paradise is not only your starting point but also sets the tone for the natural beauty you’ll experience throughout the day. Upon arrival, you’ll meet your guides, check in, and get ready for a briefing about the day ahead.
Step 3: Getting Geared Up
Once everyone is checked in, it’s time to gear up! You’ll be provided with all the necessary equipment, including helmets, harnesses, and footwear. Our guides will ensure everything is fitted correctly for your safety and comfort. They’ll walk you through a quick demonstration, showing you how to use the equipment, giving you a chance to ask any questions, and helping you feel confident before you head out.
Step 4: Safety Briefing

Safety is our top priority, especially for first-time adventurers. Before we hit the trails, your guide will conduct a thorough safety briefing, covering everything from proper rappelling techniques to how to stay safe on the trails. They’ll also share what to expect as we navigate through the different rappelling stations and waterfalls.
Step 5: The First Rappel
Now, it’s time for the real adventure! The first rappel is always a thrilling experience. Our friendly and experienced guides will be there every step of the way, offering encouragement and assistance as you make your first descent down. Don’t worry if you’re feeling a bit nervous—many first-time guests feel the same way! But once you start, the rush of adrenaline and the beauty of the surroundings will have you hooked.
Step 6: Exploring the Waterfalls

After your first rappel, you’ll be ready for more! The tour includes multiple waterfall descents, each with its own unique challenges and stunning views. Between rappels, you’ll hike through the lush rainforest, with opportunities to take in the incredible scenery and learn more about Maui’s natural history from your guide.
Step 7: The Refreshing Waterfall Swim
To top off your day, you’ll have the chance to cool off in the refreshing pools at the base of the waterfalls. After an exhilarating adventure, there’s nothing quite like a swim in these natural pools to unwind and soak in the beauty of Maui.
Step 8: Wrapping Up the Adventure
As the tour comes to an end, you’ll return to the Garden of Eden feeling accomplished, energized, and connected to the natural world around you. Many of our guests say that the experience leaves them with a newfound sense of confidence and a love for rappelling!
